Policies and Procedures

Effective July 8th, 2009

Enrollment:

Students may enroll at any time during the year. The first two months of enrollment are non-refundable.

Payment of Fees:

Tuition for the school year is based on the number of lessons available from September to June. July and August fees are calculated only on the number of lessons scheduled by the student. Tuition is due prior to the start of lessons and may be paid in full, by a charge to your credit card the 1st day of each month, or by post-dated cheques dated the first of each month. No other type of payment is accepted. All charges will appear on your credit card statement as being from Academic Music School or Plumb Pianos.

NSF Payments:

The parent/student agree the school may charge for the amount of any NSF paper cheque or credit card amount plus the bank charge that is charged to the music school by the bank.

Withdrawal and Refunds:

There is a two-month minimum for all lessons. Should you decide to withdraw from classes, notice must be given in the month prior to the last month of lessons. Only written withdrawal is accepted. Fees will continue to be charged until we receive either notice in writing or a signed withdrawal form cancelling the next month’s lessons. (e.g. to cancel April classes, a signed withdrawal must be received no later than the last business day of March) All credit card charges will stop after the one-month notice period and any post-dated cheques will be returned or shredded. Academic Music School reserves the right to terminate lessons to any student without notice. In this case a refund for unused lessons will be given.

Interruption of Classes:

No refunds are given. If the school must cancel classes due to extreme weather or events beyond our control such as power outages, the missed lessons will be made up.

Missed Lessons:

No refunds are given for missed lessons. The teacher is paid for the time booked whether students show up or not. If a teacher cannot attend a class, the school reserves the right to use a substitute teacher. If a substitute is not available the lesson will be made up by the regular teacher. During the months of July and August students may take and be charged only for those lessons scheduled by the parent/student.

Make-up and Extra Lessons:

Make-up or extra lessons cost extra and are charged the normal lesson rate. Students may schedule make-up or extra lessons at any time that a teacher is available. Two free make-up lessons are available per year if absence is due to serious illness. To schedule these lessons a doctor’s note is required.

Dates and Events:

It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all school activities and dates the school is open or closed. The school will post all such notices on the bulletin board as well as send notices home with the students.

Conservatory Exams:

School staff will help parents and students with information regarding either Royal Conservatory or Conservatory Canada. However, the school does not deal directly with these conservatories. All direct contact with the conservatories is done between the student and the conservatory and therefore the student or parent are responsible to make sure they have the correct information.

Care of Students:

The school is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 5 are asked to remain in the school during classes. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time before or after class.

Injuries:

Parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal activity conducted by the students before, during or after class time.

Photo/Video Picture Release:

The school is hereby granted permission to take photographs and videos of the students to use in brochures, web sites, posters, advertisements and other promotional materials the school creates. Permission is also hereby granted for the school to copyright such photographs and video in its name.
