This method was used since 1982 to teach popular music in the Technics Music Academy through the use of modern technology found on keyboards and electronic pianos known as digital ensembles.   While Technics is gone, the method is great and lives on.

Pop Keyboard

Intro - This is your introduction to music, designed to get beginners playing as soon as possible, through 18 familiar songs. The three-chord melodies are easy to learn, covering styles that include swing, Latin, folk, rock and waltz. Playing tips are also provided, and students with electronic instruments will appreciate the sound suggestions available for each song. Each new concept is clearly presented and reinforced throughout the book, providing you with all the music basics and fundamentals you need to begin your musical journey with motivation and confidence. 

Book 1 is designed for students who have completed the Intro book, or have some previous training. It walks the student through a comprehensive, well-organized unit-by-unit course of study that is highlighted by over 40 popular songs in a variety of styles. Theory, technique and popular playing concepts are also covered as students expand their musical vocabulary. Book 2 - Continuing on from Book 1, new rhythm patterns are presented that allow students to play an even wider range of popular styles. As in all the books, songs are arranged in lead sheet and grand staff formats so that both chord symbol reading and bass clef reading are mastered. Book 3  Students are exposed to a broader range of notes, more advanced playing techniques, new minor keys and chords, new time signatures, and longer, more professional arrangements. Book 4  More advanced song chords are introduced, enabling students to learn pop songs ranging from jazz and Latin standards to Broadway and movie themes. More new keys and time signatures are presented and left-hand accompaniment technique is further developed.
