6 Week Free Group Lessons for Adults
We
have 3 different group programs for adults that we want to find out
which is the most enjoyable and which one people make the most
progress with. For a while we are offering these classes FREE to a limited number of adults to help us evaluate which program is best.
The Mayron Cole Piano Method provides a classical piano education in a fun filled class structure. The Mayron Cole Piano Method emphasizes staff-note reading, rhythm counting, and sight-reading. With no short-cuts or special gimmicks, this method teaches beginners through advanced pianists to read music and accompany other musicians well.
The Mayron Cole method starts by teaching people how to count rhythms correctly. Then they add keyboard geography and staff note reading. There are many “hands separately” compositions that thoroughly cover each concept so that older beginners will not feel overwhelmed.
Large notes and staves are used on purpose in this method. The thinking is that adults will learn much faster and with much more comprehension when larger symbols are used. The music is NOT the "old familiar favorites" that adults like to hear because the methodteachesstudents how to read music by sight instead of playing pieces by "ear." (Playing by ear is hearing music and then recreating it on a keyboard without using notation)
The Pop Keyboard course is an introduction to music, designed to get beginners playing as soon as possible, through 18 familiar songs. The three-chord melodies are easy to learn, covering styles that include swing, Latin, folk, rock and waltz. Playing tips are also provided, and students with electronic instruments will appreciate the sound suggestions available for each song. This method teaches people to both read and play using chord symbols. Each new concept is clearly presented and reinforced throughout the book, providing you with all the music basics and fundamentals.
The Recreational Music program embraces both reading music and learning how to play by chords with a sequence and pace that provides a sense of accomplishment and joy for adult students. This program provides Celebrations, Piano Parties and similar get-togethers to allow adult students the opportunity to share music with their friends and families on a volunteer basis but not during the free program. There are no recitals or concerts. A stress-free, supportive environment allows students to nurture and encourage their common love of music. The music in this program includes both familiar and unfamiliar material.
You are welcome to come and take a look at the materials before you decide which program you would like to test for us. We will ask you to fill out a survey before and after the class to help us determine which program or programs we will use in the future.
